
Program
On October 22, 1996, the Massachusetts Foundation for the
Humanities and the Senate Committee to Study Women's Contributions to
Massachusetts Government held an event in the Great Hall,
Massachusetts Statehouse, to kick off a fundraising campaign for the
State House Project to Honor the Contributions of Women. The
brainchild of Senator Rober D. Wetmore (D-Barre), the project
involved commissioning original works of art to be displayed in the
statehouse alongside the dozens of portraits and statues of men. At
the time, there were no dipictions of women in the Massachusetts
Statehouse.
The event

Remarks by co-hosts Senator Lucile P. Hicks (R-Lincoln) and
Senator Robert D. Wetmore
Remarks by featured speakers Evelyn Murphy (former lieutenant
governor) and Dr. Selma Botman (University of Massachusetts)
Presentation of the first gift by Lucy Stone School
fifth-graders
Continental breakfast
Tasks:
coordinated logistics with speakers, statehouse staff, and
caterer
designed and distributed event invitation
designed exhibit on the project and fundraising materials
arranged for media coverage
managed the reception
